Heteen Development Foundation Highlights Efforts to Combat Desertification at COP16 in Riyadh
The Hetteen Development Foundation is actively participating in the 16th Conference of the Parties (#COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which kicked off in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. The foundation's participation is led by its Executive Director, Dr. Jamal al-Faqih, who will present the foundation's experience in confronting desertification and promoting sustainable development in Yemen.
The conference, which brings together official delegations from various countries, as well as international organizations and experts in the fields of environment and sustainable development, witnessed the participation of the Republic of Yemen with an official delegation headed by the Minister of Agriculture, Water, and Fisheries, Major General Salem Abdullah al-Saqatri, accompanied by Mr. Fouad al-Faqih, Deputy Director of the Social and Labor Affairs Office.
Through this conference, the Hatteen Development Foundation presents a pioneering model by showcasing its projects, which have included drilling artesian wells, establishing sustainable residential villages, and implementing afforestation programs and the use of solar energy to enhance the sustainability of local communities. The foundation will also participate in discussions on key issues related to enhancing land sustainability, addressing the impacts of climate change, and developing comprehensive strategies to tackle desertification and drought.
The foundation emphasizes the urgent need for equitable distribution of international funding to support developing countries, especially those suffering from conflicts and wars. The foundation asserts that funding for sustainable projects must be flexible and aligned with the needs of affected communities to ensure a positive and sustainable impact.
Heteen's participation in this international event comes as part of its commitment to supporting regional and international efforts to combat desertification and achieve sustainable development, while emphasizing its pivotal role in promoting innovative solutions to address environmental challenges in Yemen and the region.
